Synopsis:

This was supposed to be the best summer of Maggie’s life. Now it’s the one she’d do anything to forget.

Maggie remembers hanging out at the gorge with her closest friends after a blowout party. She remembers climbing the trail with her perfect boyfriend, Joey. She remembers that last kiss, soft, lingering, and meant to reassure her. So why can’t she remember what happened in the moment before they were supposed to dive? Why was she left cowering at the top of the cliff, while Joey floated in the water below–dead?

As Maggie’s memories return in snatches, nothing seems to make sense. Why was Joey acting so strangely at the party? Where did he go after taking her home? And if Joey was keeping these secrets, what else was he hiding?

The latest novel from the author of The Tension of Opposites, One Moment is a mysterious, searing look at how an instant can change everything you believe about the world around you.
*I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A REVIEW ANYMORE OR JUST RANDOM LIFE SHARING ESSAY TYPE OR WHAT. HERE'S WHAT I GOT.*

One Moment strikes home.

A freak accident that took Joey's life wasn't included in the list of things Maggie and her friends are supposed to do. They were drinking and Maggie was dared to go cliff diving. Only when she and Joey were about to jump, she heard screaming and was disoriented. Last thing she knew, Adam was pulling her out and asked her to go away and leave the rest of their friends. She didn't want to believe Joey's dead. But his secret didn't die with him.

I could pretty much say that everything that had happened in this novel, well except for the death, actually DID happen to me. The pain of losing someone so dear to you all of a sudden is just unbearable. It's as if a huge part of you died. I recognize the pain of dealing with your friend's way of coping with such tragedy and how seriously one fraction of a bad life's joke could strike you and left you barely living. And that very ridiculous thing in your head, you keep on wishing to go back and do things differently just to make the person stay. Yes, I've been there that was why this novel holds a special part of my heart.

I was like Maggie at some point. I was so comfortable with my friends that I seldom notice any change. She's been with her friends since she was little so noticing such shallow things would be the least of her issues. Plus, she trusts her friends. But when Joey died and Adam started shutting them out, that was only the time she sees things on a different light and I wasn't expecting that the novel would turn out to be like this. Full of lies. Deceit. Treachery. Looking back, you wouldn't really pick up clues while you are so into a relationship but then eventually, the girl instinct will punch you hard in the gut. It may have been sad that someone has to die for the truth to prevail, but as cliche as it sounds, it would always prevail.

I just hope there was more to the romance between Adam and Maggie. I mean, they kind of hit it immediately without at least giving time to mourn and move on. But I guess it was long overdue.

One Moment surely hits straight home without warnings. The betrayal, loss and burned bridges pinch a little bit in the heart that leaves one shedding some tears. It gives a fresh air of hope and privilege to be thankful for what we have. An inspiring and very moving novel!

VERDICT:
""Fear about what exactly?" "Everything, but mostly just the realization that it all takes is one moment for your entire world to turn upside down. One wrong decision and it's over.""
