GOODBYE, 2016!

It seems like only yesterday when I posted THIS. I couldn't believe how fast days have gone by. It was all in all a rough year for me - I developed anxiety and depression kept coming in and out. 2016 also has been nothing but a bitch when it comes to adulting and reading. I absolutely sucked this year because I lowered my Goodreads Reading Challenge from 45 books to 35. My mom was hospitalized, I got sick twice, almost quit my job, cancelled my credit card and a whole lot more of misfortunes.

But you know what, I made it out alive haha and I think that is what's more important.

This year has also been good to me in terms of blogger/blogging achievement. I was invited by Penguin Random House Internation in their Blogger Tea Party last August and the most surreal one is when I became one of the panelist for The Philippine Readers and Writers Festival 2016 (Bloggers Panel). Up until now, I still couldn't believe it happened to me. It was the ultimate blogger achievement ever and my heart just couldn't handle the gratitude and happiness. This is also the year I learned that I was mentioned in the acknowlegments of Wings, final book in one of my favorite series ever - Black City Trilogy by Elizabeth Richards! I hoarded from BookOutlet (which I won't do again), toured Nevernight and ordered my first item from Society6! I got to travel to Cebu and Bohol, purchased my dream DLSR and bought a new phone. Bujo is also now my thing, I formally started July. THIS IS ALSO THE YEAR I MET MY MOST FAVORITE AUTHOR - SARAH J. MAAS! Hold on, the most important one that happened to me this year is.. wait for ittttt! This is the year I am completely debt free! So liberating!

I just realized that by looking back, the blessings I received are far more than the misfortunes I faced and that made me absolutely grateful. These adversaries shaped me into becoming a better version of myself. I was I guess focused on all the stressful things in my life half of the time. I was blinded by the negativity and toxicity around me but I won't let that happen in 2017.

Out of the thirty nine books I read this year, eleven are all DNFs. Siiiiiiiigh. Forcing myself to read didn't work out so I had to stop and find one that I would like. It is going to be like that next year! I mean, if I couldn't connect to a story or character, then I won't force it. Anyway, here's the list of my Top 10 Reads for 2016!

Top 10 Reads for 2016
(in no particular order)

Rites of Passage is a stunning debut novel. Nothing beats a hellish set of exercise to beat a hellish secret society with hellish hot drill sergeant. It is one novel fully loaded with girl power!
Rebel of the Sands is such a thrilling debut novel you would trade sleep for! Amazingly plotted, exponentially breath-taking and one of a kind ride! Cannot wait for book 2!
This is Where it Ends is a novel that is irrevocably haunting. This novel, if anything, is composed of hope and bravery that in our darkest moments, only the truest kind of love can shine the brightest.
Rainbow Rowell meets Robyn Schneider, What Happens Now is a story full of wonderfuls. A truly unforgettable story of two broken souls molded to piece their parts together. Its heart-warming romance is crunched by depression, toughened by distance but blossomed with time. What Happens Now is truly an outstanding novel I highly recommend!

What Happens Now that this story is over?
A Court of Mist and Fury is TAUNTING, HAUNTING, AND IS SO FUCKING PAINFUL YOU WOULD WANT TO THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW. SJM MASTERED TOYING WITH MY FEELINGS AND ACOMAF LEGIT DESTROYED ME. I CANNOT ANYMORE WITH THIS LIFE
Anatomy of a Misfit is a bold and hilarious novel I would surely reread. Highly recommended for those readers who are into another level of contemporary. This book is so good you won't be able to do anything else but read it.
Tell me Three Things is such a thrilling contemporary novel. It is full of real life experiences, heart-wrenching lessons and knee-buckling romance! This book is really a feel-good, swoon-worthy novel everyone should devour!
Gemina is highly thrilling and full of abhorrent creatures that would keep you awake at night. Brilliant as ever and full of plot twists you wouldn't see coming (AKA MIND SHATTERING), Gemina proves equal to the magnificence of its predecessor. Legit hands down one of the best sci-fi series to ever hit shelves.
An Ember in the Ashes is the most brutal novel I've read this year. For fans of Red Rising and The Hunger Games, this haunting, dark and heart-wrecking novel is a must read! Buckle up for a wild ride!
Sword and Verse is honest to goodness a refreshing addition to the high-fantasy genre. I cannot stop flying through the pages because I don't want to calm my nerves anymore. I want more of that rushing adrenaline, that gripping feeling and that teeth-gritting sensation. This novel is a balance of a young romance that rooted deep with the hunger to uncover ancients secrets and surpass the call of a crown.

So 2016 gave me such amazing reads I just lacked motivation and time to read more. But this year's pick is This is How it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp! It was such a moving read I can't forget about it. I can't forget how it made me feel and I believe it has become such an important part of my bookish life. You gotta read it.

If I have hurt you indirectly, I am sorry. I didn't mean to cause pain. But thank you all for being a part of my 2016! You are part of the reason I am who I am now and I will strive to be better than before! Here's to more amazing books next year!

THE BEST BOOKS OF 2014.

Where I get to recap my fruitful year and compile all the best ones I've read!
Again, where did the rest of 2014 go? Time have gone by so fast I felt like I missed life this year. Well, I totally did! I was just stuck at home almost the entire year because I quit my job and I allowed LOSS to get the best of me. I was pretty much depressed the entire time: didn't read much books, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, no strength to go out with friends. Yeah, that was basically my 2014. BORING. But am glad there are still awesome things I could look back to and choosing the best books I read this year is one.

Here are the best books I read this year.
Am missing two books here because one is borrowed and one is an ecopy.

"Nielsen never disappoints. Not in any aspect of the book. The plot was stunning, the writing was witty and "accent" sexy, characters are all well developed and thought of and the twists of every event leads to discoveries not only of secrets but motives and truth. The Runaway King deserves so much that I couldn't type and collect the right words to explain how satisfied I am with the story. Truly mind blowing. One of a kind. Magnificent."

"I am sad. Sad that the series is now over. That I won't be seeing MORE of my Shatter Me crew. But I am happy. Happy that an extraordinary story ended in an ultramagnetic sonic way. Ignite Me exceeded my sky rocketing expectations that I think, I will never be this satisfied with any other series conclusion ever. Mafi made my standards so high I cannot almost see it. Ignite Me is a book and a story that will leave you asking, WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HEART."

"Maybe Someday may have ended too perfectly but it ended the way it should. The idea of this story isn't totally applicable in real life but it gives a little spark of hope that the heart could wait and could find the one that beats the same way. Wrong as it may sound, but love will always take its own course to the right person no matter how wrong circumstances may be and it will take as long as it could until the time is right. Maybe Someday made cry ocean and seriously tore my heart apart. Hoover did it again. The story she created rendered my entire existence speechless and my heart shattered. Maybe Someday is absolutely a tear-inducing novel that will mess your feelings up but will plant love deeply to your heart. Then rip it."

"Wings is the perfect conclusion to such amazing series. I will never have sufficient adjectives to describe how Wings gave euphoria and all sorts of unnamed emotions to me. Highly fitting to be the last installment (because there is nothing that would top this), every fiber of Wings suited the need for answers and satiated the cravings for action. Gripping with blood and vengeance, Wings turns out to be the key to all the madness. Treacherous, dangerous and brutal it may appear but Wings is by far the best part of the series. Breath taking and breath stopping altogether."

"As I have shared on Facebook, I couldn't recommend this book enough. It isn't only mysterious but highly intriguing and it plays so good with the mind. Lockhart sure enough nailed this one, the characters are so lovely, the plot is one of a kind, the romance is ugh, to die for and that tingling sensation on each chapter gives an out of the body goosebumps. This book is surely one of the amazing novels I've read this year. And be warned: prepare for a support group. You wouldn't survive longer after you're done with this."

"After the End is truly mind numbing, heart breaking and fist clenching dystopian take. The depth of my love for this book is undeniably immeasurable. It took my breath away in a surprisingly beautiful way. The striking prose combined with the astounding mystery behind the plot, this book is worth all the praises the dictionary can ever produce. Brilliant, wonderful, magnificent."

"Monstrous Beauty is a story of eternal love, magic and tragedy mixed beautifully. It is one of the so many astounding novels ever written. Thrilling, mystifying and excruciating to the heart, Monstrous Beauty brings the kind of love that will haunt and torment you. This is a book that will change you forever."

"Isla and the Happily Ever After is the perfect ending to this companion series. It is bubbly, swoony and dreamy that your heart will beat a hundred times faster than normal. Isla is my favorite next to Anna and definitely, there's a re-read that's going to happen soon! GO GRAB YOUR COPIES NOW!"

"Heir of Fire is absolutely worth waiting for. If it takes another year for Book 4 to be published, I will wait with all my heart. Maas' wrote another phenomenal story with such amazing structure that never misses to surprise me. It is mysterious, brilliant and thrilling. Hands down to you, Maas! Another job well done! And I will follow the Throne of Glass series, to whatever end.."

"Pawn is a book that is sensitive, intriguing and powerful. It speaks individual empowerment that nothing should stop you from being who you are and achieving what you want. It is such a magnificent work that you would beg for Captive immediately. Truly an evocative dystopian novel, Pawn will touch your heart with strength to fight not just to make ends meet but to seek justice, safety and equality."
4 stars
"Red Rising is absolutely heart-racing, hair-raising and mind-blowing take on a very cruel dystopian world. It speaks a language so uniquely and tells a story so admirably. Holding distinct characters as its strength, it doesn't stop there. Love, revenge, and freedom are cooking in such impeccable way that tasting Red Rising would have you asking for more."
8 stars
"Intoxicating and nerve-wracking, Golden Son brings full blast of action and suspense that will leave you grasping for air. With a remarkable plot and shocking ending, Book 3 couldn't be here fast enough. It holds love, loss and vengeance in its center that if this incredibly phenomenal sequel will not break you, I don't know what else will."
There are my favorite reads this year. Not only because I was swept away by the story or characters, it's because I was blown away by the emotional impact these books brought to me. Yes, I will never be the same again after reading such brilliant novels and I'll be more than happy to tell the world about these books!

Now, one of the hardest things I've to make this year it to decide which one is going to land The Bookaholic Blurbs' 2014 Book of the Year. I narrowed it down by rating so the 8 star reviews are among the ones I've to choose from. But it's still hard. I loved all of these books but only one fits the titles. Which one would it be?

I chose this book because I've never read anything quite like it. As in, there's nothing to compare it to.

The Bookaholic Blurbs' 2014 Book of the Year goes to:

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama

There you have it! Thank you so much authors for writing such amazing novels and for making my life a little bit bearable! Till next year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

THE BEST BOOKS OF 2012.

Where I get to recap my fruitful year and compile all the best ones I've read!
The Best Books of 2012 is something I thought of doing to show how much I loved selected special titles I read this year and my most anticipated release of 2012. This is also be a recap of the books I thought were the best! I know there are some memes like this but I like to do this on my own. Let's start!

The Best Books of 2012 - titles I've read within the year. These are the best titles in my opinion and they gave me FEELINGS I never thought I would feel for a premise or a character!

This is the first dystopian novel I read and I immediately fell in love with it. I didn't like Peeta at all because I was rooting for Gale and I adore how brave Katniss is.

I loved the romance Carey brewed here.

The first sci-fi novel I read I think and all of it just blew my mind away!

The premise is really breathtaking. What would you do if love is a disease?

Die For Me (Revenants #1) by Amy Plum - My review.
Vincent and Jules. Kate. Paris. Revenants. Ugh. I have pure and unconditional love for this one, people.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi - My review.
Tahereh Mafi is a wonderful writer. I don't just like the plot or Alex or Warner, but I love Tahereh.

Rapture (Fallen #4)by Lauren Kate - My review.
The best ending to the first best angel-inspired novel I loved.

Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand - My review.
The second best angel-inspired novel I adored. It doesn't bore and for a change, the male protagonist is human.

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake - My review.
My favorite horror novel. Feelings, oh goodness. Feelings.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1)by Sarah J. Maas - My review.
One of my most anticipated novels this year that every page, every word I loved! There's no justice that I could give on the beauty this one has. I loved it and it is one of my all time favorites now.

As 2013 is nearing, I know a lot of good titles will be published and I couldn't be any happier about that! Thank you also to everyone who have been a part of my 2012! You rock! Cheers!
