OCTOBER WRAP-UP + BOOK OF THE MONTH.

Bad news and good news. Bad news is I only read two books this month, Illuminae re-read and Gemina. After that, nada. I tried picking up other fluffy reads but you know how reading slumps go - it's ridiculous. So I didn't force myself anymore. Good news is, I've been busy again with my Bullet Journal and I'm happy how I've been consistent this time!

Here are my IG Stories snippets during my reads. Gaaaaah, I love this series so damn much I want acquire all editions!

BOOKS READS:

Blog activities recap list:
October 19 - GEMINA review
October 31 - October Wrap-up!

Aside from there is nothing else to choose from, I don't think anything can contend to this title. My love for this series is endless I swear ~~~

October Book of the Month is Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, Illustration by Marie Lu
"Gemina is highly thrilling and full of abhorrent creatures that would keep you awake at night. Brilliant as ever and full of plot twists you wouldn't see coming (AKA MIND SHATTERING), Gemina proves equal to the magnificence of its predecessor. Legit hands down one of the best sci-fi series to ever hit shelves." - Gemina

STAB, STAB, STAB AND WE ARE DONE.

Start rant. Commitment is one of the things I value most. I've made my share of humiliation in the past for being irresponsible and it is not a nice thing to feel. I may say I've learned from the past mistakes. What is it's connection to Nevernight Tour you ask. Well, this tour has taught me to reevaluate my commitment because that's a major reason why this tour may or may have not been successful. To be direct, this tour was actually a disaster.

It is quite disappointing it turned out to be like this. I carefully picked the participants knowing and trusting they are all mature enough to commit to what they signed for. I shouldn't have relied so much to huge following. Lesson learned. Come Nevernight Book 2, if I am given another chance to tour it, rest assured that it won't be like this one. And I am so sorry for not pushing through it hard enough. End rant.

This blog tour is now officially over. It may be a disaster but I definitely learned a lot from this experience. Thank you all so so much to the lovely bloggers who participated in this mini-blog tour! Without your continued support, this wouldn't have been possible to begin with. Thank you Harper Voyager UK for providing the review copies and to Jay, thank you for writing this wonderful piece of art and for sending over THE gifts for us! I truly appreciate it and my heart is just about to explode from too much happiness. Thank you, thank you! Your support means everything to me.

Sharing all these glowing reviews from our lovely participants!

"All in all, Nevernight is a fantastic way to introduce a new fantasy series to everyone. Saying it’s action-packed and straightforward is an understatement, and it obviously lives up to it’s hype. Definitely a must-read for (adult) lovers of the fantasy genre. This might just be one of the best Fantasy books of 2016!" - JM

"...I would recommend you read Nevernight in all of the glory it contains. Not only would you expect blood, but you will expect something different. Mia Corvere is not your typical YA heroine, and Nevernight is not your typical book with similar fantasy plots. Give this book a try, and you might get that #stabstabstab vibe, too." - Bianca

"From the synopsis itself, I already knew it’s going to be dark, but damn! It’s nothing compared to the book itself. There are themes of violence, death, and sex present in the book so I understand if readers become a little wary but I really do recommend this book!" - Inah

"I don’t know, this book just completely blew my mind. I went to Nevernight not giving it much thought, but after closing the book, I am an official Jay Krisotff fan! This book is just what fantasy novels should be like! I still really don’t get why some people disliked this book, because I love it so much. Days after reading this, I still find my thoughts going back to what happened in the novel. Ugh, I need the next book, and I can’t stand the fact that I have to wait so long for it!!!!!" - Kim

"All in all, I do understand why some people didn't like Nevernight, but hey, between you and me, give the book a shot. Read it until you get the writing, and then allow the story to engulf you. You won't regret it." - Lyra

"All in all, Nevernight is a very nice choice of book for someone who doesn't know just what to read to get out of a reading slump. Maybe that's just me, but high fantasy has always been my go-to genre when I can't choose what to read. This is a great beginning to a new YA fantasy series, and I'm surely looking forward to reading the next!" - Kazhy

Thank you every so much bloggers, Harper Voyager UK and Jay Kristoff! You all rock!

MEETING THE AUTHOR: MORGAN MATSON.

Where I relive the experience and share all the feels before, during and after meeting these fantastic authors WHO ARE BASICALLY LIFE.
Back in September (17 to be exact), National Bookstore once again filled my bookish heart with such warm love. They brought one of the authors I wanted to meet. I honestly haven't read any books from this author (I did DNF one though) but Second Chance Summer has been on my radar for a long time now. I guess I was just waiting for the right time with good enough reasons to hoard her books because I bought them all without batting an eyelash and thank you, Morgan, for signing them.

Morgan Matson is definitely tall and pretty! She also has a Canadian accent! Sorry if I am obviously clueless! Anyway, my blogger friends asked questions and 3 lovely ladies flew in all the way from Cebu for this event! Talk about dedication! I haven't read any of her books but I am so ready to marathon them especially now that I needed a comtemporary fix.

Her answers are found here:

I didn't record the Q and A so hehe I don't remember much of what was discussed. But I distinctly remember this very awkward thing when I was in front of Morgan. I was just literally quiet the whole time she was signing. I couldn't come up with any questions because I haven't read any of her books plus my neurons are dead that time so the moment of silence just fucking dragged haha! You wouldn't know how long 20 seconds is until you are in that exact situation. Anyway, I saw her nailart and a little convo started from there. Gaaad how embarrassing! But she asked me questions about nailart (which thankfully I have knowledge of, ha!) but she practically initiated the convo. She's so nice, guys. Thanks for saving me, Morgan, from completely falling into a puddle of my own embarrassment.

She has a very touching message for us, Filipino readers and I will upload it later tonight so make sure you watch this page up for the video.

"A thousand moments that I had just taken for granted- mostly because I had assumed that there would be a thousand more." - Second Chance Summer

"I'd always loved the chance to become someone else for a few hours. Someone for whom the words had been written, every gesture and emotion plotted, and the ending figured out. Almost like life. Just without the surprises." - Amy & Roger's Epic Detour

Thank you so much, National Bookstore for this wonderful chance!

REVIEW: GEMINA BY JAY KRISTOFF AND AMIE KAUFMAN.

Title: Gemina
Author: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff; Marie Lu (Illustrator)!!!!!!
Series: The Illuminae Files #2
Edition: Paperback
Publication: October 18th 2016 by Knopf Books for Young Readers
Source: ARC provided by the publisher
Pages: 608
Genre: Sci-Fi

Synopsis:
Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They've totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE:

I have finished re-reading Illuminae in preparation for Gemina and I was just as heartbroken. Gemina is set in Jump Station Heimdall and we have a fresh set of characters to follow. It kicks off I believe 5 minutes after Illuminae (according to Jay's blog post) but Gemina felt independent from Illuminae. It felt more like a companion novel to me which didn't really affect my undying love for this series. But if you want to re-read Illuminae, you go ahead! We all need to remember the beginning of this after all.

A shocking revelation Jay and Amie made a few weeks ago was Marie Lu illustrated the journal entries in Gemina! HELLO MARIE FREAKING LU! WELCOME TO HEIMDALL! One downside of reading an advance reader's copy is you go blind with the illustrations. The ARC doesn't have these yet so it is really a bummer. One upside though is I got to read it before the release date and damn, I sometimes wish I have the courage to hate the authors *stares laser beams at Jay and Amie* because they are just plain cruel to my already bruised heart.

Gemina, Gemina. Oh my Gemina. It isn't just your regular sequel or companion. I mean, Illuminae made me expect things, in Gemina I was given something else. Way better something else. A perfect something else. The story might have been slow in the beginning and there are the parts where I struggled to connect with the main characters and I was legit unsure how I am going to accept the House of Knives gang thingy, but I can guarantee that it just gets freaking awesome! You know that feeling when you are so anxious or excited about something you get hyper and sweaty and sometimes you just can't help but scream? My pillow was the second victim of my Gemina experience (first victim was my heart), I used it to muffle my screams, I punched it, choked it (LOL), punched it again, hugged it, wet it with my tears and wrestled it! Gemina hit right in the gut! So many bloody things happened and there are creepy things lurking around ULK! LEGIT GOOSEBUMPS PEOPLE! I cannot even read those pages with creepy ugly things because I was so scared something would leap out off of the pages and attack me! It was seriously intense. Brutally creepy is the best way to put it. I was on edge the entire time.

I honestly liked Kady and Ezra in Illuminae than Hannah and Nik in Gemina. So much difference between these duos but they are both equally amazing. Kady and Ezra did so much for Hypatia with the help of others while Hanna and Nik pretty much became independent most of the time. The latter fought adults who were you know, professional in what they do and I just didn't believe that they would be able to defeat them easily. I am not questioning their wits or capabilities or age but there's like YEARS of experience between the two groups so I didn't quite grasp it. This isn't just your typical high school bullies you are going against but an interstellar corporation who have nukes, drones and assassins. You know what I mean? But that didn't make me love it less.

Aside from the illustrations, I fell in love with Gemina deeper because of how it is narrated. The story is all a mystery to me and then the entire narration of the book is yet another mystery. Mystery-ception? Like, how they thought of doing it like that - the entire story of Gemina is presented as an evidence against BeiTech. I MEAN IT BLOWS MY MIND BY JUST THINKING HOW FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE THIS BOOK IS. AND JAY KRISTOFF MENTIONED IN HIS BLOG POST THAT THE SURVIVORS IN ILLUMINAE WOULD APPEAR IN GEMINA --- AAAAAAAH GUYS, IT FELT LIKE A HUGE CROSSOVER AND I WAS SHAKING THE ENTIRE TIME! I WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO APPEAR AND THE PAGES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL I CANNOT BREATHE A SINGLE MOLECULE OF AIR THUS 5 STARS INSTEAD OF 4 AND WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKERY IS GEMINA LIKE WHAT REALLY IS GEMINA OMG MAJOR SHOCK-INDUCING

Gemina is highly thrilling and full of abhorrent creatures that would keep you awake at night. Brilliant as ever and full of plot twists you wouldn't see coming (AKA MIND SHATTERING), Gemina proves equal to the magnificence of its predecessor. Legit hands down one of the best sci-fi series to ever hit shelves.

Thank you so much for the ARC, Penguin Random House!!

STACKING THE SHELVES (85): THE BOOKOUTLET HAUL EDITION V3.

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews that showcases newly acquired books or goodies we bought, received or borrowed during the week.
I just learned digitizing/digitalizing my handwritting last night after several attempts using PicsArt phone app for Android. I followed the tutorial I saw on IG and it was so fulfilling to finally have it done. Having a scanner will do wonders in my crafty life but for now, I am happy with this app. Everything is on my phone! I know I have a long way to go before I become confident in brush calligraphy but I am not aiming for perfection. Yay for more practice!
