It is fitting that Batman: Nightwalker is my first read of 2018. New Year, new stuff.. right? It is also my first 2018 Blog Tour review and my first ever Marie Lu book so HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ME, INDEED!

I was so happy to have been given an ARC of Nightwalker because I was really looking forward to getting this one. The first book in this series was by Leigh Bardugo and I have absolutely fell in love with her take in Wonderwoman's story. It did set the bar quite high, if I am being honest. But the authors of this series are no doubt going to blow my mind to bits, and I have never been right in my life in this level. My first Marie Lu book was absolutely phenomenal.

To be honest, I am not THAT of a DC fan. I am a Marvel kinda person but I am familiar with Bruce Wayne. Lu gave me a different side of Bruce and I am so relieved that this book is finally out in the wild! Lu wrote it in a very uplifting way and it is such an eye-opener. The politics in the story is honestly? THE TRUTH! It is happening right now in our government and Lu remarkably took this chance to dissect it like no one has done before.

What truly made me fall in love with this book is Lu's inclusion of diverse characters. I was sooooo happy and fascinated to have met a Filipina character - yes, a side character that felt so Hermione-ish to me - a character that resonated with me as a Filipina. Aside from that, Lu was able to explore each of the characters in a way that reflected not only their physical attributes but their intentions and hearts. I saw how Lu gave these characters their own timeline to shine. IT WAS JUST BASICALLY AN AMAZING BOOK THAT I LOVED SO DEARLY YOU REALLY NEED TO GET THIS.

Younger Bruce is still the Bruce I know todat. He's still the loving person I adored. It melted my heart how much he is willing to sacrifice for those that matter to him. In this book, we can definitely see his vulnerability but despite the fear, he still trusted his heart. Everything in his story is well-balanced and I really, deeply wish Lu would write a sequel. BECAUSE AN ENDING LIKE THAT REQUIRES A SEQUEL.

Also, my love for Alfred with never ever dwindle. EVER.
AND I SCREAMED WHEN DETECTIVE GORDON WAS INTRODUCED! LIKE, IT WAS THE BEST THING TO HAVE GRACED THESE PAGES EVER HAHA!
Lastly, what could Madeleine and Kady (Illuminae) do if given a chance to work together?

Batman: Nightwalker is such action-packed novel that I could not literally put down! Marie Lu has proven how amazing she writes and her take on Batman is one version that will stick with me for a long time! Highly recommended for those people who love stories with hackers/underground notorious groups/droids and BATMAN! REWARD YOURSELF AND GO PICK THIS ONE UP NOW!

Thank you PRH International for the galley!

I just finished reading my second Pop Fiction book. My first was Karmic Hearts that unfortunately, I didn't enjoy at all. Texts were confusing, typos were all over the book and it was honestly a hard one to read. Though reading The Conspiration of the Universe felt as if it was still a draft manuscript instead of the finished copy, I enjoyed it well enough to land three stars.

If you have read Literally by Lucy Keating (and loved it), this one's for you. Eureka is a character in Luke's favorite book. She appeared in Luke's life just right in the middle of his heartbreak. It's as if universe conspired for Luke to fall in love again. They were happy but you know how it goes, once the book ends, so as Eureka's story in real life.

A scene in TFIOS had a cameo, too. The part were Hazel and Augustus went to meet the author of the book and confronted him about the ending, the characters and a sequel. This made me deduct two stars from my rating because apart from being super similar to Literally, I wasn't expecting another kinda dupe scene to pop-up. I was enjoying it despite the similarities because I thought that the spin of the story would be somehow unique and I would see the author's print in it but I didn't. Would have been a superb one if the story was you know, owned. I am not saying that this book copied Literally (it might have been written prior to Literally) but the similarities are so uncanny and I didn't experience 'discovering' new things in this book. It felt flat at times and aside from the typos and cliches, it wasn't the book I could say gripping or mind-blowing or anything that would stick for a while.

Matt's short story made me absolutely giddy though. He's a side character that I would love to see more from and by the end of the book, I was given a few pages from his point of view. He's absurd at times but definitely a friend you would love to have.

The Conspiration of the Universe is a story I enjoyed. I may have had some issues with it but seeing Luke and Eureka happy made the reading journey worth it.

Thank you for the review copy and for having me, Summit Books!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW: HOW TO DISAPPEAR BY SHARON HUSS ROAT.

I would like to thank my amazing friend, Hazel of Stay Bookish, for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour! I really enjoyed How To Disappear and hopefully you would, too!

Title: How to Disappear
Author: Sharon Huss Roat
Series: Standalone
Edition: Kindle // Paperback
Publication: August 15th 2017 by HarperTeen
Source: eARC provided by the publisher via Edelweiss // ARC loaned by Hazel
Pages: 384
Genre: Contemporary, Mental Illness, Romance

Synopsis:
Vicky Decker has perfected the art of hiding in plain sight, quietly navigating the halls of her high school undetected except by her best (and only) friend, Jenna. But when Jenna moves away, Vicky’s isolation becomes unbearable.

So she decides to invent a social life by Photoshopping herself into other people’s pictures, posting them on Instagram under the screen name Vicurious. Instantly, she begins to get followers, so she adds herself to more photos from all over the world with all types of people. And as Vicurious’s online followers multiply, Vicky realizes she can make a whole life for herself without ever leaving her bedroom. But the more followers she finds online, the clearer it becomes that there are a lot of people out there who feel like her— #alone and #ignored in real life.

To help them, and herself, Vicky must find the courage to face her fear of being “seen,” because only then can she stop living vicariously and truly bring the magic of Vicurious to life.

In this beautiful and illuminating narrative, Sharon Huss Roat shines a light on our love of social media and how sometimes being the person you think you want to be isn’t as great as being the person you truly are.

PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE:

Vicky is an invisible girl in her high school who is only getting through the day with the help of her best friend, Jenna. She has social anxiety and it is so hard for her to go out and be around people. Jenna moved to another state and Vicky is having a hard time adjusting to life without her. It started getting worse when Jenna butt dialed her and mentioned to her new friends that Vicky is pathetic. But Jenna dumps her but Lipton enters the picture. Vicky then started photoshopping herself in different photos and uploading them on Instagram under the handle @vicurious. This helped her find her people and it helped her a little bit to cope. She never thought she'd gain more than 2 million followers and that she'd finally be seen. She started feeling a little bit okay until Jenna texted her and implied she's suicidal.

First 50% of the book is where the build-ups happened. It was excruciating because there are moments I couldn't really understand what Vicky wants. She wanted to be seen but she's trying so hard to be invisible and she clearly shuts everyone out. It was also excruciating because I feel like it's started dragging and that I am starting to also get tired of Vicky and her mother to be honest. I powered through holding on to the fact that Lipton is there, and that I wanted to really know how the events would unfold.

I only started to connect to her through those small moments I can identify with what she's going through. It is at times frustrating but by watching her tell her story, I gained focus. It's hard when your brain is not functioning the way it's designed and it's harder when the people around you add to the pressure and keeps pointing out what is wrong with you. Vicky was alone in her battle and she's always at war with herself. I am just so glad she found her people even just from social media because I know she did feel accepted in there. I loved how her huge following didn't get to her head and that she welcomed help at the end. The most important thing is when she confronted her mother. I also felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. It was a relief and very crucial that family is there for us.

How to Disappear is a battle against invisibility, bullying, name-calling, slut-shaming, peer pressure, depression and anxiety. It is also an eye-opener for those who are clueless as to what is really happening in our heads. It implies such a strong message: You are not alone in this fight, I see you.

Thanks you Hazel and HarperCollins International for the galleys!

"I cringe at the pictures of cut marks, of blood dripping down pale arms or thighs slashed and raw. Of too-thin bodies, and mascara-stained cheeks. People are liking their photos, which feels wrong. Is that what they want--positive reinforcement of their suffering? Or maybe it's just acknowledgement. To be seen. They expose their deepest paint for a handful of little red hearts."
"Joy attracts and misery repels."
"But the kissing? This is something worth living for."

Hello, blurbies!! I am so happy to have been given a chance to be a part of this wonderful Blog Tour! Today is the last day and this is the last post so thank you so much to Summit Books and Pop Fiction for hosting! Karmic Hearts by Jhing Bautista is the first ever Pop Fiction book I ever read. Sadly, it didn't meet my expectations. I have encountered *technical* nuances that could have been easily avoided and it was honestly hard for me to get in to. BLOG TOUR REVIEW: ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS BY FRANCESCA ZAPPIA.

It's been a while since I joined a blog tour and I'm happy to be a part of this one! Thank you so much, Precious of Fragments of Life for hosting and HarperCollins International for the galley!

Title: Eliza and Her Monsters
Author: Francesca Zappia
Series: Standalone
Edition: Paperback
Publication: May 30th 2017 by HarperCollins
Source: ARC provided by the Tour Host/Publisher
Pages: 400
Genre: Contemporary, Romance

Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-old Eliza Mirk is the anonymous creator of Monstrous Sea, a wildly popular webcomic, but when a new boy at school tempts her to live a life offline, everything she’s worked for begins to crumble.

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, smart, and friendless. Online, Eliza is LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of a popular webcomic called Monstrous Sea. With millions of followers and fans throughout the world, Eliza’s persona is popular. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves her digital community. Then Wallace Warland transfers to her school, and Eliza begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile. But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart. With pages from Eliza’s webcomic, as well as screenshots from Eliza’s online forums, this uniquely formatted book will appeal to fans of Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona and Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl.

PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE:

When I read Made You Up, I wasn't expecting anything at all and just went through with the story's flow. As you may know, I like books surprising me and Made You Up did. Zappias' writing is simple so it's quite easy to fly through the words and her story is full of twists and turns that keeps the reader hooked. Eliza and Her Monsters absolutely delivered.

If you are a fan of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (which I didn't enjoy, oops), this book is for you. Let me start by saying ELISA AND HER MONSTERS IS WAAAAAAY BETTER AND COOLER. Monstrous Sea deserves a separate novel and I will one hundred ninety nine point nine percent buy it! This book screams nothing but amazing and I am so so glad to have been given a copy of it for review!

Eliza is so relatable especially to those introverts (and anxious lol) out there like me. Most of the time, I also prefer to just stay at home to read and journal over socialize outside with real people. Eliza is like that. Hiding her true identity behind LadyConstellation who created an online sensation comic book, her life revolves in drawing characters for Monstrous Sea. Her friends are online people and her time pretty much is devoted to her art. But it all changes when Wallace came in to the story as a transferee to her school.

I loved how the story moves along with the graphic novel. The illustrations, chats and letters in the book give so much life to it and I just can't get enough of it. The execution is how it should be: no confusion at all between the main story and the sub-story. Sub-story didn't overtake but instead lifted the main one to its glory. Major character development only happened at the latter part but in between, Zappia made sure all her characters were given sufficient voice to convey their message. It wasn't tiring to watch them all grow and the reading experience is soooo enjoyable and addictive.

What made Eliza and Her Monsters stand out in my opinion is that characters didn't suppress their feelings. They are not afraid to say they are mad or sad, hurt or loved. The way they discover and put names to their emotions and experience are things that are truly validating and speak volumes that it is okay to be different and it is okay to make mistakes. Plus, you wouldn't predict when the twist will happen. It's like riding a roller coaster, you just die in anticipation at the top waiting for the drop.

I have discovered another name to put in to my list of Auto-Buy Authors. Intense, adorable and swoony, Eliza and Her Monsters is such a precious book that needs to be devoured right away and deserves a spot on your glorious bookshelves. It is so good you CANNOT shut up about it!

Thank you Precious and HarperCollins International for the galley!

"The doubt itself is a stupid thing, without sense of feeling, blind and straining at the end of a long chain. The monster, though, is smart. It's always watching, it unchains the doubt and lets it run wild. Even when I know it's coming, I can't stop it."
"He never stops beings scared, but he doesn't let it stop him from doing what he has to do."
"What's the point of being alive if you don't do what makes you happy?"
"The things you care most about are the ones that leave the biggest holes."
"Broken people don't hide from their monsters. Broken people let themselves be eaten."
"I learned years ago that it’s okay to do this. To seek out small spaces for myself, to stop and imagine myself alone. People are too much sometimes... I take a moment of silence and think: I am here. I am okay."

BLOG TOUR REVIEW: KEEP THE FAITH BY ANA TEJANO.

My first blog tour for the year (and in a while actually) is Keep the Faith by Ana Tejano! Guys, I have so much love for this book and I couldn't seriously express all my feels but here's my review! Thank you Ana for having me!

Title: Keep the Faith

But when her past comes calling back to her, will all the good things in her present be enough to keep her on the path? Or will she finally learn that there was more to heartbreak and recovery than what she knows?

PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE:

Whoa. I just finished reading Keep the Faith by Ana Tejano a few minutes ago and WHOAMYGOD, I didn't know that it would affect me this hard. I am literally ugly sobbing right now because of these emotions I couldn't handle all at once. It was such an amazing story that it massacred my heart and I think I will never recover. This book guys, it hit home and this one means the world to me. I am absolutely surprised how deeply in love I am with this story. Tejano writes so beautifully, it felt as if I am reading a 400-page novel when in reality, this is such a short one. There was no rush in it and I felt it in my bones how the story unfolded, how the characters developed and how my heart crushed. This one legit took me by surprise and swept me off of my feet. Words are not enough for me to express how gripping this one was. My God, it's truly beautifully written I cannot reiterate it enough.

Keep the Faith is a story about Faith who was trying to move on from James. Her ex-boyfriend of 5 years dumped her before she left for Iloilo. Reasons for the break-up she's unsure of but in IloIlo, she tries to bury the breakup at the back of her mind because she's in denial. As a community development worker, focusing on helping others took most of her attention thus unable to really face the finality of her relationship, her broken heart. When she got back to Manila, most of the people around her were so careful about mentioning her ex. It appeared as if people wanted to cage her so she won't get hurt much further by which only aggravated her denials. Then she meets a new employee, Nico. A possible rebound. Who knows? But everything went haywire from there.

The story mirrored my past feelings. I am all too familiar with the confusion, betrayal, false hopes, denial and anger enveloped in the story. There's no easy way to move on and it differs for each one of us but Keep the Faith made me relive the feelings. This book reminded me that those feelings were real, that those feelings made me a better person and those feelings are packaged with moments I would surely have with me for the rest of my life. Keep the Faith is as relatable as it gets and I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to read such riveting story. The grief and the loss are two absolute reflections of our lives and it can't get any truer than that.

Would have given the book 8 stars if only the story ended at 91%. I just think that sometimes, not all stories have to end the way this has ended. And the full names. What's really up with the full names.

Keep the Faith just went up as my second favorite contemporary romance of all time. I am still incoherent because I am in awe. Tejano's writing style is so flawless and spontaneous. I wish I could write like that! And don't judge this book for being a thin one, you'd be surprised how heavy the feels it could throw right at your face! This book certainly set the bar high for Romance Class books and I am so thrilled know what's in store for me in my next Tejano book!

I loved Keep the Faith. I LOVED IT SO SO DAMN MUCH MY WHOLE LIFE ACHES. Strikingly executed and emotionally direct, it's a story that will touch your heart in unforgettable ways. READ THIS NOW!

Thank you Ana for sending me the Kindle copy!

"One thing so terrible about a relationship ending is you end up with having so much love left in your heart and no one to receive it."
"The thing about heartbreak, I realized, is it's not really about waiting for things to stop hurting before you start moving. A broken heart can and will heal in time, but for time to actually do its job, I needed to acknowledge what I had lost and move on. However, I knew it was going to take a while - that the road would be littered with bumps and possibly smaller heartbreaks that would punch me in the gut and make me grieve again.
Even with all the truths I held in my heart, there were so many uncertainties left and so many things that I had to learn over again on my own. I didn't know if things would turn out the way I wanted then to, until I got there. For now, all I needed to do was to keep moving, because at the one of the day, uncertainties were simply an exercise in faith."

#FeelsintheAir - THE CHASE OF A LIFETIME.

Remember when I said on Twitter that February will be dedicated to #RomanceClass books on the blog? Here I am with my first RC post for the month. Since February is the "love" month, I felt that featuring Romance Class books would be fitting. These books focus on romance but authors feature and write their takes on different tropes. I think I missed one blog tour review post yesterday (so sorry, my work just fucking eats up so much of my time but I'll make it up soon) but today, I just have to share my feels for this cutie from one of my fave RC books.
CHASE SEVILLA FROM THE BOYFRIEND BACKTRACK

Have you watched HOUSE yet? If yes, you then should know Dr. Robert Chase played by Jesse Spencer. The moment I learned Chase Sevilla is a doctor, Robert's the first one to come to mind. Aside from both are Chases and doctors, they have so much similarities in my head I automatically attached Chase to Robert. Tall, gorgeous, smart, caring, very smart, and did I say smart? Robert has sexy accent while Chase has sexy skin color (he's tan because of his travels I think lol). He's the best friend type, too. Like, uggggh I can't put it into words but Chase's written to be the man you would want your daughter to be with.

Chase could easily be a constant thing in your life which you wouldn't mind being present all the time?? AT ALL? He's so good-hearted and easy-going. Funny, cheesy and definitely reliable. I'm obsessed to be honest. How I wish Dawn would write a 400-page novel all about Chase because damn, guuuuurl. HE. IS. IT.
WHO IS YOUR ULTIMATE BOOK BOYFRIEND/PARTNER WHAT QUALIFIED THEM?
THANK YOU APRIL FOR HOSTING #FEELSINTHEAIR!

STAB, STAB, STAB AND WE ARE DONE.

Start rant. Commitment is one of the things I value most. I've made my share of humiliation in the past for being irresponsible and it is not a nice thing to feel. I may say I've learned from the past mistakes. What is it's connection to Nevernight Tour you ask. Well, this tour has taught me to reevaluate my commitment because that's a major reason why this tour may or may have not been successful. To be direct, this tour was actually a disaster.

It is quite disappointing it turned out to be like this. I carefully picked the participants knowing and trusting they are all mature enough to commit to what they signed for. I shouldn't have relied so much to huge following. Lesson learned. Come Nevernight Book 2, if I am given another chance to tour it, rest assured that it won't be like this one. And I am so sorry for not pushing through it hard enough. End rant.

This blog tour is now officially over. It may be a disaster but I definitely learned a lot from this experience. Thank you all so so much to the lovely bloggers who participated in this mini-blog tour! Without your continued support, this wouldn't have been possible to begin with. Thank you Harper Voyager UK for providing the review copies and to Jay, thank you for writing this wonderful piece of art and for sending over THE gifts for us! I truly appreciate it and my heart is just about to explode from too much happiness. Thank you, thank you! Your support means everything to me.

Sharing all these glowing reviews from our lovely participants!

"All in all, Nevernight is a fantastic way to introduce a new fantasy series to everyone. Saying it’s action-packed and straightforward is an understatement, and it obviously lives up to it’s hype. Definitely a must-read for (adult) lovers of the fantasy genre. This might just be one of the best Fantasy books of 2016!" - JM

"...I would recommend you read Nevernight in all of the glory it contains. Not only would you expect blood, but you will expect something different. Mia Corvere is not your typical YA heroine, and Nevernight is not your typical book with similar fantasy plots. Give this book a try, and you might get that #stabstabstab vibe, too." - Bianca

"From the synopsis itself, I already knew it’s going to be dark, but damn! It’s nothing compared to the book itself. There are themes of violence, death, and sex present in the book so I understand if readers become a little wary but I really do recommend this book!" - Inah

"I don’t know, this book just completely blew my mind. I went to Nevernight not giving it much thought, but after closing the book, I am an official Jay Krisotff fan! This book is just what fantasy novels should be like! I still really don’t get why some people disliked this book, because I love it so much. Days after reading this, I still find my thoughts going back to what happened in the novel. Ugh, I need the next book, and I can’t stand the fact that I have to wait so long for it!!!!!" - Kim

"All in all, I do understand why some people didn't like Nevernight, but hey, between you and me, give the book a shot. Read it until you get the writing, and then allow the story to engulf you. You won't regret it." - Lyra

"All in all, Nevernight is a very nice choice of book for someone who doesn't know just what to read to get out of a reading slump. Maybe that's just me, but high fantasy has always been my go-to genre when I can't choose what to read. This is a great beginning to a new YA fantasy series, and I'm surely looking forward to reading the next!" - Kazhy

Thank you every so much bloggers, Harper Voyager UK and Jay Kristoff! You all rock!
