MEETING THE AUTHOR: SARAH J. MAAS IN MANILA 2016.

Where I relive the experience and share all the feels before, during and after meeting these fantastic authors WHO ARE BASICALLY LIFE.
Yesterday, March 13 of Twenty Freaking Sixteen, was the day when one of my ultimate bookish dreams came true. I've been wishing for years for this author to grace the Philippines shores with her presence but all I could only do was wish and be envious of those people who met her. While I was writing THIS POST, my heart was swelling with joy because SARAH J. MAAS is coming.

The Bookaholic Blurbs, The Soul Sisters and Stay Bookish!
Blogger, vloggers and Kate Evangelista at the forum.
After grabbing a cup of coffee from Starbucks, Greenbelt, we headed to Powerbooks and the the fan flailing began. When we saw her coming upstairs, OMG my heart just exploded from happiness that this is really happening. Sarah J. Maas was literally a few feet away from me and OMFG! SHE'S MAGESTIC! She's so elegant and funny and talkative and emotional and beautiful and amazing and humble and kind and everything I hoped she would be and more. SHE IS QUEEN AFTER ALL. This Q and A is the longest I've listened to and I drank every word that came out of her sexy mouth (I am stating to sound so creepy, I am so sorry). This was also the first time I asked a question after a long time BECAUSE I WOULDN'T PASS THIS OPPORTUNITY UP. Here goes my question:

"My question is a little bit personal. Now that you're a New York Times Bestselling Author, what are some personal changes it brought you as opposed to when you were just starting up? Have you experienced, like, being chased by fans and all that?"

QUEEN SJM: "Umm, you know it's amazing to me how the fandom has grown in the way that it has and I said this earlier this morning actually, but I feel like a lot about this is because of the Filipino readers. You guys has been so vocal, so supportive of this series. Umm, and like going online and talking about it and making like, beautiful edits and stuff, you guys have played such a big role in the way this has grown on a global level. Umm, and since becoming a New York Times Bestseller, you know, things have changed and also not changed. I mean, at the end of the day, like, I still sit at home and write my books and like, walk my dog and like pick up her poop. I have not become the glamorous-celebrity type at all. But then when we go to events, it's been like, amazing.. Like I had some events when I was first starting, what we had like, five people in the audience and now, we have to cap events. Otherwise, you know, I would be signing for 18 hours - which is amazing, there's that many people interested in the series - but its just been umm like, crazy to see this happen in just a span of a few years. From a very early age my dream is just to see my book on a shelf in a book store. That was the one thing that like ,at the end of the day, the end of my life and if I accomplished that? Like, I told myself that was all I wanted, that was the only thing I wanted, anything else will just be you know, icing on the cake. Umm so to get the call that I'd become a New York Times Bestseller, umm that was the dream I, like, quietly, secretly hoped for - is I think most writers do - but it was also something I didn't see coming. And my parents have always been really supportive of my writing. But when I was in college, I was saying, "I wanna be a full-time writer" umm you know, they saw me living in a cardboard box under a bridge. Umm and I'd get to these fights with them about you know, "you have to get a full time job" and I'd be like, "you don't understand my dream, I wanna be like a full-time writer" and my parents were absolutely right to be concerned like that but when I got the call, that I was a New York Times Bestseller, and I finally got to like, call my mom and tell her the news, uhh the first thing my mom said to me was, "I regret ever telling you to be realistic about your expectations for yourself". Which like meant, it still means the world to me uhh that my mom said that, that she admitted that. Umm so becoming a bestseller, you know, it's been amazing but it also has not changed like, like who I am uhm, you know, getting to get on tour around the world like, that blows my mind! Sometimes I'd be on a plane like, like going to somewhere and I will start crying because that's like.. everything that's happened it's just been beyond what I ever ever hoped for. And I had to set new goals for myself because once I reached that dream of seeing my book published like, what then? I had to set new expectations and you know, I like to think that I have not changed. To be honest, the publishing industry is tough. It is a really hard industry. I've known some very very talented writers who wrote brilliant books, the other one didn't get picked up by a publisher or their first book came out, you know, nothing really came of it. So I know how tremendously lucky I am to be here, to be able to write full time. There's not a day, not even an hour that goes by that I do not remember, that I am not phenomenally grateful. So being a Bestselling author, having that on the book, that is some kind of a security in a way, that is something that writers hoped for I think because it means it might get a little less hard to like, be able to do this for a living. Every moment of every day, I just can't believe that this has happened and I don't think I'll ever stop being grateful for you guys and for all of it."

Hardest Selfie v14 with SJM! Thanks for the photo, Jesselle!

True story: I was teary eyed while listening to her. I felt her sincerity. And since I was legit in front of her, I was just staring at her, memorizing her face and all that, I could sense the feels behind all her answers. Truly, Sarah J. Maas is a person you would want to be BFFs with. She's not just all face and brain -- but heart as well.

You can check out the other questions from recaps here:
- I'll add them once available mehehe -

If you listen to the recording and heard someone sneezed, that's me. I tried to hold it. Sorry.

Now on to the signing part. Since National Bookstore posted the mechanics that only three books are allowed, I didn't bother buying the rest of her books. I thought it just wouldn't make sense having multiple copies if the second set would be all signed. My Maas books are all US hardbound (first ed) copies bought from a different bookstore. As a sign of respect, I didn't bring anything. (CAN YOU HEAR MY HEART BREAKING) The only thing I got signed were the Throne of Glass paperback, a Post-It, my question and the poster. Then took a ton of photos and I told Sarah I've been waiting for this moment, I thought it would never happen, I couldn't believe she's in front me and all other awkward reader-author convos. I slightly embarrassed myself because aside from I sneezed while she was talking, I cannot stop flailing and I was so hyper and I even asked Papa Maas for a selfie! This is freaking SARAH J MAAS HOW COULD YOU BEHAVE YOURSELF LIKE THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP plus she hugged me, I think she hugged me the longest and I don't wanna ever let gooooo.

MY QUEEN. I PRAISE THE ROAD YOU WALK ON.
The public signing was packed! I was able to get a photo of the cosplayers (here) and they were all amazing! The fans just couldn't wait to meet Sarah (here's a vid, listen to the screams!) and even though the event was capped to 350 persons, I could say that this signing was one of the events I've ever went to. The stress was all worth it because this is all about SARAH so I do not regret anything. No hate, just bookish love and massive respect.

Group shot with the Maas Royalties. Thanks Jesselle for the photo!

I bought the frame and this one is now hanging on my wall.
Those swag are from Louisse aka Throne of Glass PH.

We've experienced so much stress over this signing and some people just won't stop saying hateful words toward us. But at the end of the day, I met Sarah J. Maas, got to hug her and talk to her and that's all I want to think about. She's the sole focus of this event and my gratitude to Bloomsbury UK for exclusively allowing posed photos for Manila event, National Bookstore for all that you've done and to Sarah for appreciating the warmth of the Filipino readers' love. Thank you. Thank you for giving us one of the best days of lives.

REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: BOOMERANG BY NOELLE AUGUST.

Title: Boomerang
Series: Boomerang #1
Author: Noelle August
Edition: Paperback
Publication: William Morrow (HarperCollins) / July 8, 2014
Source: Finished copy provided by Fullybooked
Pages: 325
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Trailer: Not available.

Synopsis:

Welcome to Boomerang.com, the dating site for the millennial gen with its no-fuss, no-commitments matchups, and where work is steamier than any random hook-up

Mia Galliano is an aspiring filmmaker. Ethan Vance has just played his last game as a collegiate soccer star. They’re sharp, hungry for success, and they share a secret.

Last night, Ethan and Mia met at a bar, and, well . . . one thing led to another, which led to them waking up the next morning—together. Things turned awkward in a hurry when they found themselves sharing a post hookup taxi . . . to the same place: Boomerang headquarters.

What began as a powerful connection between them is treated to a cold shower courtesy of two major complications. First, Boomerang has a strict policy against co-worker dating. And second, they’re now competitors for only one job at the end of summer.

As their internships come to an end, will they manage to keep their eyes on the future and their hands off each other, or will the pull of attraction put them right back where they started?
I haven't read a lot of New Adult novels lately so when I was asked to review Boomerang by Noelle August, I couldn't pass up the chance. I've been wanting to read this book since last year so thank you Fullybooked for the review copy.

Mia woke up naked in someone else's bedroom. She couldn't remember how she got there and who the guy she's with is. Worst, she can't locate her panties. What she realized though is that she has to rush to her new office, it's her first day of being an intern. The guy -- Ethan -- needs to be somewhere else too only to realize they are headed to the same office, interning to same company. It would have been good news to them because their sexual desire for each other is unbelievably strong, but Boomerang's company policy hinders them and the company will only hire one. They have to beat each other to land the job. But Ethan's distracted by Mia and Mia couldn't get Ethan off of her mind. They have to decide which is important: the job or to be together.

Boomerang was such a fun read. I may have found it a little shallow because the plot is too typical and predictable and I may have wrapped it up as a novel that most of the time focuses on the intense sexual needs, I still enjoyed it. I couldn't stop giggling and smiling because a.) I liked how the alternating POV was laid out, the flow was crisp and it was fun knowing what the other character's thoughts are immediately b.) both characters are relatable. Their dilemmas are things that most of us have faced in real life and I saw bits and pieces of myself through these characters c.) There’s just something I liked about the writing. It was so conventional and conversational I just flew through the book with so much smile in my face. That is what I enjoyed so much in Boomerang, the light and bubbly premise.

Mia’s character was described as perfect if you try to imagine her. I almost hated that aspect but then I realized Ethan is the one describing her and I started appreciating it. Ethan sees her in such a special way, a cheesy way but its romantic, swoon worthy even. Mia is an achiever that even personal circumstances didn’t stop her from giving her assigned task the best she could. And Ethan complimented her character. This story perfectly presented how women take simple words from people they care about while men are showcased by how they hide and contemplate their true emotion. Complicated yes, but it is the absolute reality.

Boomerang is a fast-paced romance I adored. It’s full of romance that toys emotionally and physically. It puts smile on your lips and doesn't stop there: it tickles the heart too. Humorous and delicious, Boomerang is a must read!

Boomerang is available in Fullybooked and thank you so much for the review copy!

"Suddenly we're trapped in a staring contest. Her gaze is so direct and her green eyes are like prisms. They hold so much light inside them. There are questions and jokes and stories in her eyes. I know right then I want this again. To be looked at by her again."
"Best thing in the world is winning something you really fought for. And it doesn't matter if it's your thing. Make it your thing."
"We're all scared of giving up the power of being the person who cares less."

 GIVEAWAY TIME!

Fullybooked is giving away a finished paperback copy of Boomerang! This giveaway is open for PH residents only (sorry international peeps) and ends on February 28! Enter below and goodluck!

MEETING THE AUTHOR: KIERA CASS IN MANILA!

Where I relive the experience and share all the feels before, during and after meeting these fantastic authors WHO ARE BASICALLY LIFE.

Last weekend, (August 3) I attended, together with such fantastic book blogger friends, Kiera Cass' Blogger Forum and then book signing event in Glorietta 1. It has been awhile since I've these awesome friends of mine and I was so elated seeing and hugging them in person! It was so much fun and I never thought that the event would be as crazy as this one! I really had so much fun!
I was so fortunate to be invited again in this event and Kiera Cass wasn't even near the person I thought she was. Honestly, I though she was kind of snob but OMG! How embarrassing to be proven wrong! She's quirky, fun, talkative and very very sweet!
The Q and A didn't last long. I actually have the entire interview recorded but I was so so lazy to transcribe and I don't want this post to be too long. Callaway was also there (her husband) and he was so sweet! The Q and A consisted of random questions. If she would be a character in the book, she would be May because she's enthusiastic, geeky and crazy. The world building of The Selection is more than a fairy tale than a dystopian. The reason it is set in the future is because that's the only place she can make it work. The inspiration behind the Caste System was a little personal for her because since she majored in Musical Theatre in college and kept picturing actor's lives, like how fair/unfair it would be to work. No other titles for The Section because from the very start, it has always been The Selection. Then if she's Team Aspen or Team Maxon and I laughed when she said YES. There were several more questions I was able to record but this post would take longer than I wanted it to if I transcribe again. Sorry!

What really surprised me was the dedicated fans that lined up early in the morning just to see her! There were almost 700 people who came!! The screaming and fan-girling was so overwhelming that Kiera wasn't able to hold up her tears. It was really a crazy yet super fun book signing event! And one of the awesome parts of this event? I was able to meet several adorable book bloggers!

I had 2 hard bound copies signed that I would save for myself as well as 2 paper back copies am going to give away! Don't forget to join!

We love you, too Kiera! (source)

THANK YOU SO MUCH KIERA CASS, CALLAWAY CASS, JB AND CHAD OF NATIONAL BOOK STORE FOR THE EVENT INVITE AND OF COURSE, NATIONAL BOOK STORE FOR THE AWESOMESAUCE EVENT! SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!

BLOG TOUR (11): PHOENIX (BLACK CITY #2) BY ELIZABETH RICHARDS.

Hi, guys!! Today is my review and guest post stop for the #PhoenixPHTour I've hosted that kicked off June 1! Today is the last day for the tour but the giveaway is up until the end of the month! I would just like to thank all of the participants who gave precious time for this to be possible! Also, am extending my gratitude to the ever lovely and amazing author, Elizabeth Richards for allowing us to tour her second book! Thank you also to Putnam/Penguin for the review copies! I cannot believe that this blog event ends today because I have so much love for this series! Again, thank you all so so much! I hope we get to tour the third book, too! Hope you enjoyed our little surprises and here's my review!

Title: Phoenix (Black City #2)
Author: Elizabeth Richards
Edition: Paperback
Published: June 4, 2013
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Pages: 368
Source: ARC provided by the author
Category: Paranormal. Romance
Trailer: not available
Synopsis:

Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash votes in favor of Rose’s Law—a law that will send Darklings and other dissenters to a deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.

When Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings, her fate is sealed. Enter Elijah Theroux, the handsome Bastet boy Natalie once saved from her mother’s labs, where he’d been experimented on and tortured. It was his venom the Sentry used to create the lethal Golden Haze, the heart of the government conspiracy that led to Black City’s uprising and Ash’s rebirth as the Phoenix, the face of the rebellion. Elijah is back and Ash doesn’t like him; it’s clear he’s taken with Natalie, and Ash fears she may have feelings for him as well.

But Elijah also may have the answer to taking down Purian Rose for good—a powerful weapon called the Ora. Ash, Natalie and Elijah just have to escape Black City undetected to find it. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon (if it even exists) are easier said than done, and the quest could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.

This enthralling sequel to Black City is just as absorbing, delicious and steamy as the first book, leaving readers hungry for the series conclusion.
Phoenix is simply an amazing, brilliant, fantastic and genius sequel ever!

This is another book I am so proud about! I finished reading it in I think less than six hours because there wasn't any reason I could find to put it down! I wasn't at first sure if this will break my love for Black City but sure enough, it exceeded whatever FEELS I got from the first book! And again, thank you so much Elizabeth Richards for allowing us to tour this enthralling sequel!

After Ash survives his execution, he is now called Phoenix. Rose kept quite for some time after the said charade but the day after the voting for Rose's Law, Ash is threatened. Rose knows that Natalie is the only person keeping him intact in amid of this chaos between the government and his people. He has to decide which to vote for; Natalie's life or two million darklings depending on him.

I was stunned all together! The beauty of the world Richards exposed in Black City is nothing compared to the astounding extension of it in Phoenix! Without the war, it would have been so perfect! I loved how much the world building expanded in the sequel and how the scope widen from one forest to another gorgeous town. It wasn't difficult to picture and the way Richards created it absolutely made it feel real. It also perfectly works with the plot! How nerve-wracking this book is! I have never anticipated such rush and action it would turn out! True that there is so much loss and blood but the fight against an unfair and selfish government doesn't only make it thrilling but also relatable. Even though most of the pages showcase rebellion, the paranormal touch didn't sleep in the back ground. And most importantly, the characters true identity has been kept secret until the right time has arrived. I didn't see any of it coming at all!

Ash and Natalie can totally use comfort at this point. Their relationship has been tested non-stop. Their lives are always at stake and they are almost always on the run. Despite of that, their hearts still beat as one and for sure, the circumstances make them tougher. They remain adorable and on top of their game that I couldn't wish for a perfect partner for them but each other. It was really painful for me as a reader knowing that their pain for each other is heightened by cruelty and uncertainty. They deserve rest and peace. Looking back, Elijah's role in here was the only one predictable. Figuring out if I like or hate him doesn't really matter because I still want to cradle both Ash and Nat at this point. There were several heart-wrenching revelations throughout the novel and a lot of death, but I could swat the back of Sebastian's head till he concur brain hemorrhage for all the evil things he's done.

Phoenix is one of the strongest sequel ever written! It is fast-paced, action and romance filled that would hundred and three percent get you hooked! There is absolutely no reason valid enough to put it down! The dark and light aspects are magnificent and in this novel, you will feel all sorts of sensation! Phoenix is definitely a Haze itself; addicting, soothing and heart-warming!

Thank you so much Elizabeth Richards for sending in the ARC!

VERDICT:
""Natalie, you still awake?" I whisper. She doesn't respond. Only now that she's asleep, do I let the tears fall."

For my guest post, Elizabeth agreed to share her love for OWLS!! I am sooo fond of her collection and I can't wait to share it all with you! The owls are all adorable!
MEET THE BOOK OWLS!

Anyone who follows my Facebook page will know I’m obsessed with owls, specifically my two mascots, the Book Owls! The green owl is Byron, and the pink owl is Emily. Aren’t they adorable? They were a gift from my mum on the day BLACK CITY was released, so they have a very special place in my heart, and I consider them my good luck charms.

Since getting my Book Owls, I’ve spawned a considerable collection of feathered friends. The latest additions are the Errol and the Chicks. Awwwwww!

I also have an owl watch, doormat, mug, cards, post-it notes, jewelry, purse, and even an owl-shaped glitter lip-balm! So I’ve definitely stepped into Crazy Owl Lady territory. It’s probably time to stop, as my study is starting to look like the owlery from Harry Potter:

Then again, I did see another adorable owl cushion yesterday. Mmmm, maybe there’s room for one more…
And don't forget to join the international giveaway!! We have a paperback copy of Black City, hard bound copy of Phoenix plus swag up for grabs! End June 30!
AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH ELIZABETH FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE AND SUCCESSFUL AND ALSO TO MY AWESOME PARTICIPANTS! BOOK 3 PLEASE!!

BLOG TOUR (11): PHOENIX BY ELIZABETH RICHARDS GUEST POST + GIVEAWAY.

Hello guys! So the bloggers here in the Philippines are currently touring Phoenix and today is my tour stop! I will be sharing some scenes that inspired Elizabeth and helped her way through the world building! There is also an international giveway you want to check out! Enjoy Black City fans!

~~oOo~~

Today Elizabeth shares a scene that inspired Bleak Bridge in BLACK CITY, where Ash and Natalie first met during a Haze-deal gone bad. In this excerpt, Ash is meeting up with his client:
“I head under the canal bridge and wait for the girl, taking a packet of Sentry-regulation smokes from my back pocket and sparking up. The nicotine courses through my veins, making them throb with adrenaline; the sensation is almost like a pulse…almost.
Footsteps approach the bridge, and a short girl with straggly black hair appears from the shadows, dressed in men’s work boots, tight black trousers and a tailcoat made from a patchwork of clashing fabrics. Her hazel eyes gaze up into mine. She’s brave. Not many cherry-poppers have the courage to look me in the eyes.”

“This canal bridge in Wolverton, England, was the inspiration for Bleak Bridge. The black brickwork inspired the Cinderstone bricks that the majority of the buildings in Black City are made of. Also, moored nearby was a barge, and that gave me the inspiration for Beetle’s barge, which features heavily in both novels. It’s where Ash and Natalie first kissed, and is also where a very special event occurs in PHOENIX.”
~~oOo~~

I loved these scenes! And if you want to know more about the characters and other cool things about the books, follow the tour schedule (HERE) because we reveal something different everyday! And without further ado, here is the awesome giveaway!
