Synopsis:
Aria is a teenager in the enclosed city of Reverie. Like all Dwellers, she spends her time with friends in virtual environments, called Realms, accessed through an eyepiece called a Smarteye. Aria enjoys the Realms and the easy life in Reverie. When she is forced out of the pod for a crime she did not commit, she believes her death is imminent. The outside world is known as The Death Shop, with danger in every direction.
As an Outsider, Perry has always known hunger, vicious predators, and violent energy storms from the swirling electrified atmosphere called the Aether. A bit of an outcast even among his hunting tribe, Perry withstands these daily tests with his exceptional abilities, as he is gifted with powerful senses that enable him to scent danger, food and even human emotions.
They come together reluctantly, for Aria must depend on Perry, whom she considers abarbarian, to help her get back to Reverie, while Perry needs Aria to help unravel the mystery of his beloved nephew’s abduction by the Dwellers. Together they embark on a journey challenged as much by their prejudices as by encounters with cannibals and wolves. But to their surprise, Aria and Perry forge an unlikely love - one that will forever change the fate of all who live UNDER THE NEVER SKY
The first book in a captivating trilogy, Veronica Rossi’s enthralling debut sweeps you into an unforgettable adventure.
PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE:
I nearly gave up reading this because I was confused with the first several chapters. Aside from I cannot understand the location or probably the year (dystopian setting with an old school tribe?). I also had issues differenciating the plot from the previous books I've read. It had a lot of similarities with:
- Twilight Edward Cullen's ability to hear thoughts (Perry's ability to scent tempers)
- Twilight Jacob Black's imprinting (Perry's rendering)
- The Hunger Games' Arena (Realms)
- Katniss Everdeen (Perry's awesomeness when it comes to hunting, archery and that epic berries)
- Eve's Califia in the mountains (Marron's Delphi)
- Delirium's labs, procedures (Lumina's Research)
- Delirium's The Wilds (Outsiders/Savages)
I've seen and read a lot (as in A LOT) of relationships/love stories and that's what I loved most in this book: its one of a kind. Readers can expect that sooner or later they would fall in love but there's something too endearing about the two. You could tag it as naive but again, there's this different level of kindness from both of them. One thing to point here as well is Aria's falcon soprano voice which I really think is a good gift you could give a character.
I hope that the next book would show its uniqueness that there would be more to it than this!
